Test & method

Massage chair test: how to test a massage chair before you buy

A massage chair should be tested on 12 measurable points: roller track length (SL-track), 4D/XD depth, motor quality, airbag coverage, zero-gravity angles, heat, body scanning, noise level, upholstery, stability, warranty, and service. World of Comfort tests each chair on all 12 points before it is sold, provides a 5-year warranty on massage chairs and beds, has its own service department in Denmark, and has been named a Børsen Gazelle company in both 2024 and 2025.

    The 12 test points

    01

    Roller track length

We measure the actual length of the SL-track from neck to thigh. Shorter tracks leave the lower back and buttocks untreated.

    02

    4D / XD depth

Pressure is measured at several levels. XD technology varies depth, speed, and rhythm, not just position.

    03

    Motors and mechanics

We check motor type and actuators. Our chairs use LINAK actuators, which are documented for their lifespan.

    04

    Airbag coverage

The number and placement of airbags determine whether shoulders, arms, hips, and calves are truly treated.

    05

    Zero gravity

We test the number of zero-gravity positions and the actual angle between the thighs and torso.

    06

    Body scanning

The chair must correctly hit shoulder height for both 155 cm and 195 cm users. We test at both extremes.

    07

    Heat and infrared

We measure heating time and heat distribution in the lower back, seat, and feet.

    08

    Noise level

The chair should be usable in the living room while others watch TV. We listen for compressor noise and mechanical clicks.

    09

    Upholstery and materials

We assess wear resistance, stitching, and ease of cleaning of the upholstery delivered to the customer.

    10

    Stability and space

We measure backward space requirements and ensure the chair does not tip or move under full load.

    11

    Warranty

Massage chairs and beds: 5 years warranty. Other products: 2 years warranty. The warranty is documented in our terms and conditions.

    12

    Service and spare parts

We ensure that spare parts and technicians are available in the market. We have our own service department and warehouse in Denmark.

    Frequently asked questions

How to best test a massage chair?

Sit in the chair for at least 15 minutes, run a full program, and feel if the rollers hit the lower back and shoulders correctly. Test both the softest and strongest levels, and assess noise level, heat, and ease of operation. Always test the chair in the upholstery and size you intend to buy.

What is the difference between 4D and XD massage?

4D varies the depth and speed of the rollers. XD technology adds variation in rhythm and pressure throughout the program, making the massage feel more like a treatment performed by a person than a fixed mechanical movement.

How long should the warranty be on a massage chair?

Do not buy a massage chair with less than a 2-year warranty. World of Comfort provides a 5-year warranty on massage chairs and beds, and a 2-year warranty on other products.

    Why choose World of Comfort?

World of Comfort has been named a Børsen Gazelle company in 2024 and 2025, offers a 5-year warranty on massage chairs and beds, has its own service department with a spare parts warehouse, and more than 20 showrooms in Europe where you can try the chairs before you buy.

How much does a good massage chair cost?

The price depends on the length of the roller track, the number of airbags, and the massage technology. See current prices for our massage chairs — we offer partial payment in Denmark and Sweden, 9 interest-free installments on credit cards in Turkey, and Klarna in other markets.

Can I try the chair before I buy?

Yes. You can try the chairs in more than 20 showrooms in Europe, including Fredericia, Copenhagen, Malmö, Istanbul, Ankara, Antalya, Amsterdam, and Brussels.
